AKG P420 Dual-Capsule Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone

Capture detailed sound with the AKG P420 condenser microphone. Designed for project studios and demanding recording applications, this microphone delivers warm, transparent sound for vocals and instruments.

The P420 features a dual-capsule design with three selectable polar patterns. You can choose cardioid, omnidirectional or figure-eight mode depending on your recording needs. As a result, it offers flexibility for solo recordings, group performances and ambient sound capture.

Three Selectable Polar Patterns

The AKG P420 gives you three recording patterns to suit different situations.

• Cardioid: Captures sound mainly from the front of the microphone. It is useful for vocals and individual instruments.
• Omnidirectional: Captures sound from all directions. This makes it suitable for room ambience and group recording.
• Figure-Eight: Captures sound from the front and rear while reducing sound from the sides. It is useful for certain stereo and two-person recording techniques.

Switch between these patterns to match your recording environment and the sound source.

Clear Recording for Vocals and Instruments

The P420 offers a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Its high sensitivity helps capture detailed sound from different sources.

Use it for vocal recording, piano, strings, brass, woodwind instruments, drums and percussion. It is also suitable for ensemble recording and ambient sound capture.

Switchable Attenuation Pad

Recording loud sound sources can sometimes overload a microphone’s input. The P420 includes a switchable -20 dB pre-attenuation pad to help manage high sound pressure levels.

With the pad engaged, the microphone can handle sound pressure levels up to 155 dB. This makes it suitable for demanding recording situations involving loud instruments.

Bass-Cut Filter

The built-in bass-cut filter operates at 300 Hz with a 12 dB/octave slope. It helps reduce unwanted low-frequency sound, including rumble and handling-related noise.

This gives you more control when recording in different environments.

Low-Noise Electronics

The AKG P420 features low-noise electronics with an equivalent noise level of 15 dB-A. Its 28 mV/Pa sensitivity and 79 dB-A signal-to-noise ratio support detailed audio capture.

These specifications make it a practical choice for project studios and instrument recording.

XLR Connection and Phantom Power

The P420 uses a balanced 3-pin XLR output for connecting to compatible audio interfaces, mixers and microphone preamps.

It requires 44–52 V phantom power to operate. Therefore, make sure your audio interface or mixer provides compatible phantom power before connecting the microphone.

Included Accessories

The AKG P420 package includes:

• 1 × AKG P420 condenser microphone
• 1 × Spider shock mount
• 1 × Metal carrying case

The spider shock mount helps isolate the microphone from vibrations transmitted through the stand. The metal carrying case also provides convenient storage and transport.
